yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah….

I have always liked the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, especially since I am all about supporting alumni of my K-12 school Friends Academy (drummer Brian Chase was class of ‘96)… however, never before had I seen them perform live. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine brought me to the friends and family concert they played over at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. I can’t stop listening to them now…

Karen O. is by far not only an extremely talented artist, but also an amazing performer. Her spontaneity and fearlessness kind of reminds me of a modern day (and perhaps a less tame) Iggy Pop. The one thing that caught me off guard that night was an acoustic rendition of their beloved song Maps, a song which my friend claims they never get tired performing. Watch it… The song can also be bought on iTunes here.

i’ll make my room sparkle

My apartment certainly has developed since I wrote my first entry; walls have gone up, couches have been covered and wall units have been built and placed strategically. Living alone has been difficult, however extremely pleasing: for while I always loved knowing I was going home to “someone” in the past, the freedom and consistent cleanliness is indeed a wonderful feeling.

I continue to look for books and knick knacks to fill my shelves and adorn the “rooms,” so why not share my finds?

Let’s Go: Southampton, NY

After the craziness of August and then having to proceed straight into fashion week, I made sure to request some time off directly after to decompress. While my home base is Brookville, I decided to instead head to my old second home, Southampton. I have a lot of really wonderful memories from our old home in Southampton– which my family unfortunately had to give up when I was in high school. Luckily, my grandparents still have a very small house on the bay in Amagansett. We stayed there.

It was relaxing and fulfilling for sure. No computer, no phone (I cheated once because I had to share with people how amazing the sky was on Saturday night), and sadly, no camera. I did have my music, books, and journal of course. Below is a list of the places we visited, love, and the things I did:

Let’s Go: Nelson A. Rockefeller Park

There are days when I definitely want to run far far away from the city. Sometimes I do hop onto the LIRR back to old Southampton where we used to call home… pass out on the beach… Or, sometimes, I try to go as far East as I can possibly go (Montauk, naturally)…

The above picture is a place: a place where the city meets a field of grass and the water at the same time.  I obviously go here when I don’t have time for the two hour train ride… Besides, an eight minute walk from home isn’t that bad.

dare you stop me from my run?

Something about the light, the time of day, and the pure awesomeness of Jeff and Jeff stopped me from my run along the Hudson River in Battery Park about two weeks ago. It appeared the duo were skating- quite gracefully, I might add- in between different sized multi-color party cups… and as if they were on ice. They were, of course, on rollerblades. Check it out.
